Azura
- a Superliner in the making
A fabulous
feat of modern engineering and design - the Azura, P&O's newest liner
is being built at Monfalcone shipyard by shipbuilders Fincantieri,
near Trieste in Italy. The development process has taken over 2 years
and the first piece of steel was laid on 27th October 2008. She has
already been floated out of the dry dock where she was constructed
and will be undergoing sea trials later this year. Azura is due to
be delivered to Southampton in April 2010 for a series of inaugural
celebrations, followed by her exciting maiden voyage on the 12th April
2010.
|
|
Her name is
derived from the word 'azure', meaning blue. Chosen by P&O because if evokes
images of the sea, the horizon and blue skies - encapsulating all that is
romantic about travelling by sea. Azura also sounds sophisticated, stylish
and serene, all qualities that the ship conveys.
